Focus on Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceuticals and drugs fall into Class 5, one of the largest in terms of registered trademarks - it is among the top 10 fullest classes. Which is why it is so difficult to find names available in this class, especially since in addition to the usual constraints of trademark law (more than 1 phoneme and 1 grapheme difference), come those of national or international regulating authorities (e.g., the EMEA in Europe, the FDA in the US) which require more than 2 phonemes and 2 graphemes difference for public health reasons.

This is why Quensis has equipped itself with Similar 2, a unique, high-performance software for detecting similarities within 2 letters, as we described in our last newsletter. Therein lies one of the differentiators that give our company added value. We are the only firm in the world to own such a tool for ensuring each new drug name is “trademarkable”.
